I have rarely been on LJ in the past couple of years, but I thought I'd hop in a check on all of the kiddos here.
On December 5th, 2011 Molly was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes (AKA type 1 diabetes). I have one uncle who got type 1 when he was 9 and apparently that is about all of the family history you need, there is no one with type 1 on my DH's side. She had been lethargic and very thirsty (like 1/2 a cup of water every ten minutes or else she would just be miserable) and peeing just as much and just not acting like herself. We caught it very early, her blood sugar at the pediatrician's office was 317. Luckily, she was not in diabetic ketoacidosis yet, and she did not have to be hospitalized. She is now insulin dependent and gets 4-5 shots of insulin a day and checks her blood sugar between 5-10 times a day.
We have, of course, had a crash course in diabetes management, as type 2, that we all know about because it's so common, is very different from type 1. She was very scared that first day because she does not like needles, what 5 year old does? But she has adjusted beautifully and for the most part she takes everything in stride. She can test her own blood sugar already and she loves the independence she is slowly gaining.
We will be looking at going on a insulin pump over the summer.
Anyway, I just wanted to share and see if anyone else had any kiddos that had any health problems. |

I think I need to become more active in here. I've always been somewhat active but we've all been together in our journey of motherhood since the beginning, when we were all having our "I feel like a whale" days when we were big w/ baby and were so ready to just have our lil ones to hold. I miss the days when Lyric was a tiny swaddled lil lumpia.She keeps reminding me that she'll be 6yrs old on her next birthday.Eeeeek!!
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, whatever it is that you believe/practice...and that everyones New Year is starting out well. Lyric goes back to school Tuesday...I can't wait. I've not had time off from school like she has so I feel bad because she's spent her Christmas Vacation in daycare. I hate it, and I told her that we'll play hookie one day to go to Color Me Mine to paint her Tinkerbell figure thats been sitting beside the tv for about 3 months now waiting to be painted. She went to my hometown Friday w/ my girl friend Trista, stayed a night w/ her girls and then was handed off to my bestest friend in the world Cory, to spend 2 nights w/ her kids. I go pick her up tomarrow. I know she won't be happy, she loves going to Aunt Cory's and hanging out with her girls. She has a 9yr old daughter, & 11yr old stepdaughter. I think Lyric has become both thiers best friend which is kinda funny since she's only 5 BUT she's smart beyond her years.
Lyric & her loot from Christmas, minus gifts she's recieved while being with my girl friends this weekend.
P.S. After posting this entry I noticed looking at the picture that you can sorta see the computer tower behind Lyric. She won a desktop computer from her school! They're just recycled, but with a brand new monitor (they're slowly getting rid of anything not an Apple) but it was awesome. It was supposed to be a raffle for 13 families to win, but sadly only 13 families and ONE teacher (Lyric's kindergarten teacher) bothered to come to the "Plan for your childs future now" type workshop they had. Her principle is very concerned when he goes to HS graduations and everyone acts like thats the end of the road and so many don't plan for college & beyond.Sooo as showing his concern for our children he is having several workshops over the course of the year...they provide dinner, childcare so the parents can talk. |

Lyric Marie graduated from preschool yesterday morning and is officially on her way to Kindergarten in the fall if all goes as planned.......

I pretty much thought that my daughter would be an only child. I wanted to lavish all of my attention and love on her, just as mom did to me. But here I am, 4.5 years later, six months pregnant with her sister.
We've decided that she probably would be happier with a sibling. That, and the fact that I said I did not want to conceive after 35.
Anyone else had a change of heart? |

| booster seats |

I imagine that many of you have switched your 4 yr olds to booster seats from the convertible type. I'm looking for the inside scoop on the booster seats. What's your opinion of them, favorable or not, and what seats do you prefer, or know to have been rated the safest?

I know our little community isn't as active as it once was....but I miss seeing all the cute 4 year olds we all have! I thought maybe some of you would be interested in being Facebook friends. I know that I an much more active there and thought others might be too. We did this in another community I am a part of and it is nice to stay in contact! My FB is under Alison Reynolds Jung if anyone is interested! |
